"MOLA" is a multi-layered applique made by the indigenous Kuna people of Panama, a Central American country facing the Caribbean Sea. This is a vintage item made about 30 to 40 years ago. The Kuna people's sensibility is wonderful and full of the charm of folk art, using colorful fabrics to vividly express the Kuna people's lifestyle, beliefs, and various animals as motifs. This world-famous MOLA was originally a decorative cloth sewn onto women's traditional costumes, and is said to be a remnant of the time when they lived without clothes and instead painted their bodies with body paint.
It's a good size so it would look good as a wall decoration or framed.
You could also use it as a placemat or as a covering for something, or try sewing it onto your clothes, following the Kuna people's example.
Please feel free to enjoy it.
