This is an old Onta ware bowl made in the Showa era. It has a traditional style with "brush marks" on the inside of the bowl and "flying plane" on the back, but the reddish, subdued glaze color is eye-catching and different from modern Onta ware. Another attractive feature is the high base, which is rare for Onta ware. This tall bowl gives off a slightly special atmosphere and would be good to place in the middle of the table to serve the main dish or salad. Onta ware has a unique flavor that is unique to old items, so be sure to try incorporating it into your everyday dining table.

Even today, the techniques that are passed down from father to son at each kiln without the use of machines have been designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan . Onta ware has been highly praised since the Mingei movement that began in the Taisho period, and has become widely known in Japan and overseas thanks to its introduction by Muneyoshi Yanagi and Bernard Leach. Traditional techniques include flying plane, brush marks, and comb painting.
