This is a very old Tsuboya ware Yachimun makai.
It has a very tasteful appearance with an atmosphere unique to antiques. Okinawan pottery, known as Yachimun, was discovered during the Mingei movement after the Taisho period and has become increasingly well-known on the mainland, but this is a valuable piece that is thought to have been made before that time. Okinawan pottery was originally produced actively in the Tsuboya district of Naha City. However, after 1970, restrictions were imposed on the production of pottery in wood-fired kilns in the Tsuboya district, which was then part of the city, and pottery began to be produced in the current Yomitan village.
Currently, Yachimun pottery is immensely popular as a representative example of folk art pottery, but old Tsuboya ware, which strongly conveys the culture of the Ryukyu Islands, has always been an object of admiration.
