This mug is made by Miyake Kota of Kurashiki Aokigama, a potter in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, a city where folk art is deeply rooted. The black glaze and rice bran glaze are poured over the pottery, which has a strong folk art flavor, but the Kurashiki Aokigama pottery is finished in a very modern way, and is strikingly cool. Miyake's pottery, which is created with his own sensibility while admiring the old pottery of Kurashiki, is powerful and full of the charm and energy of folk art. Another attractive feature is the unique earthenware flavor that is created by using a unique blend of clay from Sakatsu, Kurashiki, which has been used in Kurashiki's folk kilns since ancient times. He is a young potter who we can look forward to seeing more of in the future.
