This square bowl is made by Miyake Kota of Kurashiki Aokigama, a potter in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, a city where folk art is deeply rooted. This bowl is fired to a beautiful black color with a subdued luster, and is made by combining candy glaze and rice bran glaze in a unique combination, which, combined with the embossed pattern on the edge, creates a very modern finish. The back side is unglazed, so the contrast with the clay from Kurashiki Aokigama, which is made without compromising the atmosphere of the original clay, is wonderful, and it is a piece that you will want to look at forever. Miyake's pottery, which is created with his own sensibility while admiring the old pottery of Kurashiki, is powerful and full of the charm and energy of folk art. Another attractive feature is the unique earthenware taste that is created by uniquely combining clay from Sakatsu, Kurashiki, which has been used in Kurashiki folk kilns since ancient times. He is a young potter who is sure to have a promising future.
