This is an eight-inch bowl by Miyake Kota of Kurashiki Aokigama, a potter in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, a city where folk art is deeply rooted. The unique dull cinnabar color, the ring-shaped comb pattern, and the quiet contrast of the glaze poured over it are attractive, and the more you look at it, the more you are drawn to it. It is good for use and good for display. It is a piece that really lets you feel the charm of Kurashiki Aokigama.
Miyake's pottery, created with a unique sensibility and an admiration for Kurashiki's old pottery, is powerful and full of the charm and energy of folk art. Another attractive feature is the unique earthenware flavor that is created by using a unique blend of clay from Sakatsu, Kurashiki City, which has long been used in Kurashiki's folk kilns. He is a young potter whose future is sure to be exciting.
