Ash-glazed embossed bowl / Kurashiki Aoki Kiln (Miyake Kota)

This square bowl is made by Miyake Kota of Kurashiki Aokigama, a potter in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, a city where folk art is deeply rooted. The bowl has one of Miyake's signature works, a stamped crest, which gives it a sense of strength, but the rounded lines give it a gentle atmosphere.
Miyake's pottery, created with a unique sensibility and an admiration for Kurashiki's old pottery, is powerful and full of the charm and energy of folk art. Another attractive feature is the unique earthenware flavor that is created by using a unique blend of clay from Sakatsu, Kurashiki City, which has long been used in Kurashiki's folk kilns.
