Gray-glazed soba cup with white clay pattern / Shiwajigama

This is an old soba choko (cup for soba noodles) made by Shiwajigama, a pottery kiln in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture .
The greenish ash glaze and the light, flowing ichin give this piece a very modern feel. After training in Tanba, Toshiro Sato of Shiwajigama worked with Okishio at Kurashiki Minatogama for many years, producing many pieces of pottery that are a staple in our daily lives. Even after going independent, he continued to create gentle pieces that fit into our daily lives, based on that same spirit. This is one piece of pottery that we would like to continue to cherish and pass on as an embodiment of folk art.
