This square bowl is made by Miyake Kota of Kurashiki Aokigama, a potter in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, a city with deep roots in folk art. The dotted iron and gosu technique is now one of Miyake's signature works. It is a truly attractive piece that combines sophistication and cuteness.
Miyake's pottery, created with a unique sensibility and an admiration for Kurashiki's old pottery, is powerful and full of the charm and energy of folk art. Another attractive feature is the unique earthenware flavor that is created by using a unique blend of clay from Sakatsu, Kurashiki City, which has long been used in Kurashiki's folk kilns. He is a young potter whose future is sure to be exciting.
