This is an old teacup from Yumachi Kiln, a folk kiln representing Shimane Prefecture. It is small and easy to handle, and has a beautiful denim-like color and texture unique to the glaze called namakoyu. Yumachi Kiln, which follows the tradition of Izumo and Fujina ware, has been producing folk art tableware since 1922. The many pieces of slipware and egg bakerware that were born from the guidance and exchanges of Bernard Leach and others during the folk art movement are the foundation of this kiln, which is still loved by many people today.
