This is an antique pitcher made at Yumachi Kiln, a folk kiln in Shimane Prefecture. The sea cucumber glaze and unique denim-like color and texture are beautiful, and the subtle ridges on the body give it a modern impression. Yumachi Kiln, which follows the tradition of Izumo and Fujina ware, has been producing Mingei pottery since 1922. The many pieces that were born from the guidance and exchanges of Bernard Leach and others during the Mingei movement, such as slipware and egg baker, are the foundation of this pottery, which is still loved by many people today.
