This is an old work from Yumachi Kiln, a folk kiln representing Shimane Prefecture. The lovely rounded form of this earthenware teapot is rare in recent works, and the denim-like color and texture of the unique glaze called namakoyu (sea cucumber glaze) are also beautiful. Yumachi Kiln, which follows the tradition of Izumo and Fujina ware, has been producing folk craft pottery since 1922. The many pieces of slipware, egg baker, and other pottery created through the guidance and exchanges of Bernard Leach and others during the folk craft movement are the foundation of this pottery, which is still loved by many people today.
