This is an old Reatablo, a traditional Peruvian folk art.
Its origins date back to the time when Spanish missionaries in colonial South America carried statues of Christ and other saints in wooden boxes with doors inside when they went about their missionary work.
Due to its origins, many of the designs are based on biblical motifs or related to Catholic events, but this one is based on the motif of cactus fruit harvesting, and conveys the traditional lifestyle of the Andean people.

The leather used for the hinges on the lid and the thick layers of paint give it a vintage feel. The dolls inside the box are not made of clay but from a mixture of potatoes, newspapers and plaster, giving it a Peruvian feel.
Colorful and joyful, Andean folk art is a great interior piece that will brighten up any space.
