These are old hand-carved woodblocks used in block printing, a traditional Indian craft. This primitive Indian textile technique, in which a block is pressed against fabric repeatedly to create a continuous pattern, has surprisingly remained almost unchanged since the 16th century to the present day, and the fabrics produced by this handiwork are full of the charm of simple, hand-made work.
The tool used to make it, the woodblock, was also handcrafted. The wood has taken on a rounded, stately appearance through repeated use, and can now be considered an object that speaks of history and beauty. It can be placed up against a book stand or hung on a wall using the opening on the back. Please enjoy this piece of art born from everyday life as an interior object.
