These are old hand-carved woodblocks used in block printing, a traditional Indian craft. This primitive Indian textile technique, in which a block is pressed against fabric repeatedly to create a continuous pattern, has surprisingly remained almost unchanged since the 16th century to the present day, and the fabrics produced by this handiwork are full of the charm of simple, hand-made work.
The tool used for this is the woodblock, which is also handcrafted. The wood has taken on a rounded, stately appearance through repeated use, and can be considered an object that speaks of history and beauty in itself. It can stand on its own, so it can be displayed as is, or its shape can be used to make handles for building fixtures.
