This is a local toy that is handed down in Hinagu, Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
It is also called the "Okin female doll" after the woman who served as the model. The Benta doll was born from a folk tale about a love story between a dutiful son and a town girl named Okin, which is related to Hinagu Onsen. Unlike the Kokeshi dolls of the Tohoku region, these dolls are not made on a potter's wheel but are hand-carved from paulownia logs, and were once popular as dress-up dolls and toys for girls to play house with.
The way it sits is so cute, you'll want to place it in various places around your room as decoration.
Size: w47 d50 h298mm (legs stretched out)
